Crafted with Time, Care, and Intention
Handmade in Bern, Switzerland
We make fewer things, more thoughtfully—so they can live with you for years.
How It Began
I'm Seohyun Choi, the Korean crafter behind Atelier Sonya Choi. In 2019, while living in Seoul, I wanted to make something small: an AirPods case. I really loved working with leather and that hobby turned into an obsession. By 2021, I opened my own leathercraft workshop in Seoul to pursue the craft more seriously. Each piece I made reinforced my love for the slow, intentional process of creating something unique by hand.
From Seoul to Bern
In 2023, I moved to Switzerland to start a family. The change of place brought new challenges, but also new perspectives that enrich my craft today.
Roots & Place
A language of two homes
From Korea: a minimalist, metropolitan mindset—clarity, function, and restraint.
From Switzerland: precision, beauty of Alpine landscape—calm, and a rich, seasonal palette.
Together they guide our aesthetic: everyday essentials with minimal yet meticulous detailing, made from natural leather in colors and forms that fit urban life.
Inside the Craft
Slow methods, steady hands
Every piece is cut by hand, stitched by hand, and edge-finished by hand. This pace lets us check each detail, strengthen every seam, and create surfaces that grow smoother with use. Over time, the leather develops a natural patina—a quiet record of your days.
What Sets Us Apart
-
100% Hand-stitched — no machines, just durable saddle stitch throughout.
-
Thoughtful, minimal design — refined details, quality materials, quiet presence.
-
Made-to-order & Custom — colors, sizing, and initials tailored for you.
We don’t mass-produce. Each item is made with a person in mind—their use, their story. That care protects quality and builds a bond that lasts.
Made for Your Days
Our pieces are companions: a laptop sleeve that commutes with you; a passport sleeve that gathers stamps and memories; an eyewear case that’s always in your bag. Simple forms, meant to be used—and to be missed when they’re not there.
Looking Ahead
We’re building slowly: sustainable, everyday objects that express the wearer’s identity and hold up to daily life.
I hope that one day, when a grandchild opens a family storage box, they’ll find our leather piece inside—still sound, still beautiful—and smile at the life it has seen.
An Invitation
“Every piece I make carries not only leather and thread, but also time, care, and a story. I would love for one of them to become part of yours.”
